Rocket-Powered LEGO STAR WARS Star Destroyer Makes a Satisfying Smash

Ever since David Letterman dropped watermelons off rooftops, and Gallagher built an entire comedic persona on hitting things with mallets, society at large has understood the inherent appeal of making stuff go smashy-smashy. Meanwhile, Road Runner cartoons attest to a certain fascination with riding atop dangerous rockets and into great self-induced peril. But while Wile E. Coyote’s rockets often misfire and go the wrong way, one LEGO Super Star Destroyer has just ridden one into a perfect demise (via Geekologie).

Reaching up to 67 miles per hour, this hefty and painstakingly built Executor–complete with a li’l Darth Vader minifig standing athwart the bow, possibly silently yelling “stop!”–uses a rocket and skateboard wheels to ride a rail directly into a plank.

Now, you might ask whether it’s heartbreaking to see a model that took so long to make fly into a bazillion pieces (give or take a million). The answer is simple: if the person who built the Star Destroyer wanted it not to break, they’d have used the Kragle. So obviously there was no strong desire to keep it permanently intact. And if it’s impermanent anyway, it deserves a demise worthy of the actual Executor crashing into the Death Star.

You won’t miss anything if you blink, by the way. The video replays it over and over, including in slow-motion and backwards. So you can savor every brick as it hurtles through space like a 2001 astronaut casually murdered by HAL. Will Ferrell‘s dad character from The LEGO Movie would weep.

What would you like to see destroyed with the rocket treatment next? Give us your best ideas in comments.
