The HAN SOLO Movie Will Include Fan Favorite Rebels Tag and Bink

Fans of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, a.k.a. Legends, take note: Tag and Bink are going to be part of official canon. This is not a joke. The hapless duo that fumbled their way around the galaxy in comics by writer Kevin Rubio and artist Lucas Marangon in the Dark Horse Comics era have roles in the upcoming Han Solo film.

Director Ron Howard tweeted a picture of two guys in Imperial officer uniforms–one of whom is Han Solo film writer Jon Kasdan–with the caption “#tagandbink.”

I don’t think Howard is above joking around with fans, so I wasn’t sure if he was being serious. But when Rubio replied and commented about Tag and Bink joining the current storytelling universe, Kasdan replied and confirmed the duo is indeed Tag and Bink. He’s playing one of the characters, with Toby Hefferman as the other.

Of all the Legends characters to make the leap into canon, I never would have picked these two names. The stories about Tag Greenley and Bink Otauna are silly and a blast–think along the lines of the Hamlet-connected movie Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, which was part of the inspiration for the comics. The comics starring Tag and Bink were part of the Star Wars Tales series and saw the hapless characters weave in and out of the lives of Anakin, Boba Fett, Lando, and more. They attracted trouble and mayhem along the way, in a similar fashion to Jar Jar Binks. Print copies of Tag and Bink tales are hard to track down, but you can still find digital copies.

At one point, Tag and Bink joined the Rebel Alliance and ended up captured by the Empire. They escaped their stormtrooper captors and disguised themselves in the armor. Maybe something similar happens to the duo in the Han Solo film, and that’s why they’re dressed as Imperials. They might not be called out in the movie or have a prominent role, but it’s going to be a blast to see the names Tag and Bink in the credits.

Are you pumped about seeing Tag and Bink on the big screen? What other Legends characters do you hope make the jump to canon? Let us know in the comments.
