STAR WARS HAN SOLO Movie Has Cast Its Lando Calrissian

FOLKS! We’ve known for the past couple years at this point, but it’s a good time to be a Star Wars fan. Not only is this due to The Force Awakens and Star Wars Rebels being great and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story looking like it’ll be pretty great, but also because we’ll never be that far away from another new movie, with Episode VIII and Young Han Solo right around the corner. On Friday afternoon, another super exciting piece of the next Anthology movie entry was put into place with the announcement that Donald Glover has indeed been cast as the cape-clad scoundrel, Lando Calrissian.

The news came from Lucasfilm directly today — shared via StarWars.com — and the untitled Han Solo movie’s directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The movie will depict Lando in his formative, much more scoundrelly days prior to winning and operating Cloud City and way before he was anything close to a general in the Rebellion.

Glover had long been the rumored/assumed actor to take on the role, much as Alden Ehrenreich had been in the role of Han Solo. He was pretty much a lock but was then made official at Celebration Europe in July. Of their new, Community, Atlanta, and Childish Gambino-famous costar, the directors said:

“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

We’re pretty darn stoked about this casting; Glover and Ehrenreich will be able to spark off each other quite nicely, and it gives a good idea of the tone Lord and Miller will be striking, given Glover’s comedic chops.
