STAR WARS: HAN SOLO Comic Takes Flight in June

Since Marvel reclaimed the Star Wars comic book rights, Princess Leia, Lando, and even Chewbacca have headlined their own miniseries. But starting this June, it’s Han Solo‘s turn!

Writer Marjorie Liu and artist Mark Brooks are teaming up for Star Wars: Han Solo, a new five-issue miniseries that takes place between the original Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, before Han was fully committed to being a rebel. According to Liu, even Han doesn’t know where he stands after helping the Rebellion destroy the Death Star.

“This is a Han Solo who doesn’t quite know who he is anymore,” explained Liu during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “He doesn’t think about politics, and suddenly he’s thrust into this life-or-death struggle for beliefs he didn’t even know he cared about — and it has changed him. He doesn’t want to believe
that change, but he has.”

Liu is giving the miniseries a Fast and Furious vibe as Han gets the opportunity to enter a famous starship race known as the Dragon Void Run. Unfortunately for Han, his personal ambition is hindered by a secret mission from Princess Leia herself, which may further the Rebellion while dashing his hopes and dreams.

Additionally, Liu teased that there will be two main villains for Han and Chewie to deal with: “There’s a heavy from Han’s past, and there’s a heavy from the present, someone who wishes to thwart Leia’s mission.”

Marvel also released two pages from Star Wars: Han Solo, which you can see in our gallery below. Those pages aren’t the final artwork from the series, but they are gorgeous! And one of the pages even appears to have Bossk on it!

During Marvel’s first Star Wars run, Han Solo stories were largely off limits for the nearly three years between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. But with a young Han Solo film on the horizon, don’t be too shocked if Marvel eventually gives Han his own ongoing series.
