STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII Will Finish Shooting on…

Even if your July Fourth wasn’t so hot, there are fireworks aplenty waiting for you in today’s Movie Morsels. Including an update on Star Wars: Episode VIII from Luke Skywalker himself, the first ever clip from the new Ghostbusters, and much more!

Star Wars Episode VIII

Wondering when the next chapter in the Star Wars saga will wrap production? According to veteran star Mark Hamill, Episode VIII will finish shooting this month…

At a recent event in the UK, Hamill joked that once Episode VIII wraps he’ll be out of work, leading some fans to question whether or not Luke will survive the next film. Hamill, however, addressed these rumors in another recent tweet:

Directed by Rian Johnson and co-starring Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran, Star Wars: Episode VIII flies into our galaxy on December 15, 2017.

After a long series of trailers, the first official clip from Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot is at long last here. And it introduces two new pieces of ghostbusting equipment: the ghost chipper and the proton glove!

So how soon will it be before these new gadgets are sold in toy stores? Or are they there already and I’m just shopping at the wrong toy stores?! In any case, Ghostbusters opens everywhere on July 15.

David Brent: Life on the Road

The film sees the infamous TV icon finally pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a pop star, and there’s a brand new music video that gives us an idea of just how well he fares in this endeavor…

Directed by Gervais himself, David Brent: Life on the Road opens on August 19.

If the recent whitewashing of Asian roles in film adaptations of Ghost in the Shell and Doctor Strange is still making your blood boil, you may want to skip over these concept art images (by Ruairi Robinson) of the proposed Akira adaptation that have just resurfaced online. Apparently, at one point, Chris Evans and Joseph Gordon Levitt were considered for the starring roles…

The Wicker Man

The Wicker Man

Finally today… We bid a sad farewell to British filmmaker Robin Hardy, who directed the original 1973 version of The Wicker Man. As good a film as the Nicolas Cage remake was bad, it’s still arguably the finest screen thriller to emerge from the UK.
