STAR WARS Droids Get Their Own FRIENDS-Style Opening Credits

Even 17 years after Friends went off the air, The Rembrandts’ “I’ll Be There for You” opening theme still seems to go well with almost anything that the internet comes up with. It’s surprising it took this long for the most famous droids in the Star Wars universe to star in their very own Friends-style opening credits.

Darth Blender posted the Friends and Star Wars mash up video featuring R2-D2, C-3PO, BB-8, and K-2SO as the featured droids, with a few cameos from across the seven main saga films as well as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. There are only four core droids in these films, so they’re two short of a full cast of Friends. And since K-2SO didn’t have any onscreen interaction with any of the other famous droids, he’s basically off on his own in this video.

This clip is actually quite fitting, since the heart of Star Wars has often been formed by the occasionally antagonistic friendship of R2-D2 and C-3PO. Even from the opening seconds of A New Hope, it was clear that duo had seen their share of adventures. And while there are times when both Artoo and Threepio were legitimately pissed off with each other, they almost always circle back to each other. They may be artificially intelligent, but their feelings are real.

While BB-8’s design is deceptively simple, that little droid has perhaps the most emotive face of them all. Unlike his famous predecessor, BB-8 doesn’t have a protocol droid to hang around with. But perhaps that’s a good thing! BB-8 bonded quickly with Rey and Finn during the events of The Force Awakens, which suggests that the he may actually have empathy as well.
