The galaxy far, far away is going to the Caribbean. It’s not because Anakin Skywalker wants to experience a different kind of sand but because Disney is integrating Star Wars into their cruise line offerings. Star Wars is great anywhere, but the idea of seeing Darth Vader on a boat is too novel for me to resist. The boat in question sadly does not look like Jabba’s sail barge but is something much bigger and better: the Disney Fantasy. The Disney Cruise Line ship sails from Florida into the Western Caribbean, and they’ll be sailing with the Force beginning in 2016.
The Star Wars Day at Sea will offer a whole range of activities for younglings, Padawans, and Jedi Knights (read: kids, teens, and adults). Star Wars characters such as Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Chewbacca will be onboard for meet and greets, there will be a shipboard take on the Jedi Training Academy from Disney parks, Star Wars trivia contests, and arts and crafts. Once the twin suns of Tatooine set, adults can go a night club that feels like the Mos Eisley cantina scene with characters, appropriate music (WHAT IF THEY HAVE FIGRIN D’AN AND THE MODAL NODES!), and themed cocktails.
There’s more. The first six Star Wars films and episodes of Star Wars Rebels will be screened. Star Wars celebrities will be available to meet fans and sign autographs. Finally, the day ends with a deck party featuring a show and Star Wars-themed fireworks.
I don’t mean to be that fan, but I can’t kid myself. Disney and Star Wars are my two greatest fandom loves. Take all my credits, Disney.
Star Wars Day at Sea will be part of the Disney Fantasy line-up on cruises departing on these dates: Jan. 9, 23; Feb. 6, 20; March 5, 19; April 2 and 16, 2016. You can get more information and book travel at Disney Cruise.
