STAR WARS Characters Sing Smash Mouth’s “All Star” in an Inexplicably Funny Mashup

No matter which way you slice it, “All Star” by Smash Mouth was a bona fide hit in its day, and it continues to rack up the plays during its second life as the internet’s most popular song. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon decided it wouldn’t mind a bunch of YouTube views, so in honor of Star Wars Day (“May the Fourth”), the show’s staff figured it would be fun to edit dialogue from the movies into a Star Wars cover version of “All Star.”

The video description says Fallon re-edited the footage, but we’re not buying that he himself slaved over Final Cut Pro for hours working on this goofy internet video, of course. Whatever the case, this was certainly a task for the poor editor(s) who had to go back through all the movies and find instances of all the words from the song (just the first verse, though).

As commenters on YouTube pointed out, however, they couldn’t quite do it; For example, for the word “finger,” they combined Daisy Ridley’s Rey shouting for John Boyega’s “Finn” with the last syllable of Emperor Palpatine saying, “anger.” We won’t take points away for that, though. If anything, that creativity and resourcefulness is impressive.

This video is just the latest in a long line of “All Star” reworkings, my personal favorite of which has to be either Neil Cicierega’s “All Star” mash-up album or “All Star” recreated with Windows XP system sounds. Let us know in the comments what other Smash Mouth-based fun you’ve come across in your online travels.
