STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT Rumors: Campaign to Link to Upcoming Film

After posting about the Star Wars-themed Humble Bundle yesterday, this next bit of news couldn’t be more perfect. If you’re a Star Wars fan, or more specifically, a Battlefront fan you may want to hold onto your butts for this one. Star Wars fan site Making Star Wars has gotten their hands on a massive list of rumors regarding DICE’s upcoming game Star Wars: Battlefront. No word yet on how many Bothans died to bring them this information, but, boy, do they sound exciting.

First things first: according to the list, the campaign will span the entire Star Wars saga, and will mainly take place during the original trilogy era (thank god). You’ll be able to play as both the good guys (Old Republic, Rebellion, and Republic) and the bad guys (Separatists and the Empire) throughout several familiar locations and will even be able to play through a couple of battles from The Clone Wars.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, it was hinted that some of the story–which, in its entirety, is supposed to be bigger than most modern day games–will take place in between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. That being said, don’t expect too much because “Lucasfilm has a lot of plans for that era.” It was also noted that the very last section would take place before and during the introduction to the upcoming film (which is to release about a month after).

In addition to a lengthy campaign, the game is rumored to have a massive multiplayer mode that will support up to 64 players simultaneously (32 players participating on each side). The mode will feature the intriguing “hero” system, which allows players to accumulate points while playing and later cash them in to play as a more powerful characters with abilities not available to normal characters.

The downloadable content plan for the game is “extremely aggressive” and will include up to five DLC packs, generously stuffed with new maps and characters from The Force Awakens. Considering this is coming from the same people that brought your Battlefield 4, that shouldn’t come as any surprise though.

Just have a new Star Wars game will be exciting. I think DICE can make a good shooter and it looks like they are really working on the details of this game. I am looking forward to it.

They better have local coop, otherwise its ruined for me.  The best thing about Battlefront 2 was being able to play massive battles with my twin.
