STAR TREK Office Building Cost Nearly $100 Million To Build

It is a rather common occurrence in the world of fandom to see someone go to extreme lengths to prove just how big a fan they are of a certain movie, television show, or whatever it might be. The Verge recently reported that Liu Dejian, the founder of Chinese game developer NetDragon Websoft, has found a way to go above and beyond in his fandom: he has reportedly spent 600 million yuan, which converts over to just under $100 million, to build an office for his company to resemble the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek.

Every Star Trek fan hopes they could one day step aboard the famed Federation ship, but it seems Liu Dejian was not willing to wait for someone else to make it into a reality.

The 260-meter-long building took four years to build, with construction starting in the city Changle, found in China’s Fujian province, back in October of 2010. NetDragon even made sure to reach out to CBS, who owns the rights to the Star Trek TV show, and obtain permission for the building’s construction. Like any of us would, CBS thought it was a joke, until they had the proper legal papers sent to them by Liu Dejian himself. Construction finished in October of last year.

The building does not hold an exact resemblance to any one version of the U.S.S. Enterprise, and in truth looks a little more like the U.S.S. Voyager with the oblong shape to it. Oh well, Star Trek fans don’t tend to be too picky about that kind of thing…right?
