Star-Lord, aka Chris Pratt, Might Be the New Indiana Jones

I think it’s safe to say at this point that Chris Pratt is the American Benedict Cumberbatch. How else do you explain the actor now being eyed for a lead role in a third, huge geek-friendly franchise? Pratt, known the world over as Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Star-Lord, will also star in Jurassic World later this year and currently plays the brilliantly ridiculous Andy Dwyer on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. And now, according to Deadline, Pratt is being eyed by Disney to play the world’s greatest archaeologist/professor/adventurer/Naaaazzzy killer, Indiana Jones, for its upcoming reboot.

After acquiring the rights to the Indiana Jones franchise from Paramount in 2013, following its purchase of Lucasfilm from George himself, Disney has been looking to make that the new wing of its domination of all things nostalgic. It already (quite successfully) picked up Marvel many years back, and anticipation for JJ Abrams’ Star Wars continuation is so high it’s close to Yavin 4 at this point. Disney and Indy already have a working relationship, given the adventure ride and stunt spectacular at its theme parks, which have also long had Star Tours. Perhaps a new Indiana Jones will reinvigorate interest following the, let’s face it, pretty dismal fourth film in 2008.

If Pratt is cast, and it’s very preliminary at this point, then he would bring a definite vulnerability to the role that certainly wasn’t present in Harrison Ford’s version of the character. The one worry I’d have is, what made the first three Indy films so much fun was the fact that the character of Indiana Jones is kind of an a-hole, and also a murderer. (Of evil people, though, so it was okay.) He was like a 1940s, American James Bond. Softening that for The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a mistake, and one I hope they remedy if Pratt takes over.

What do you think of this news? Does Pratt have what it takes to play Henry Jones, Jr. or should Disney go find someone less Star-Lordy? Let us know in the comments below!

    Jensen Ackles please!
I honestly wish they’d just leave Indiana Jones alone, but if they insist on rebooting, PLEASE get Jensen Ackles! His comedic timing is brilliant, his drama is riveting, and he can move and fight better than most out there. He’s got the charming, ‘making-it-up-as-I-go’ charisma needed to pull off the role and Disney would be wise to look in his direction. They wouldn’t regret it!

I truly enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy.  Chris Pratt may be popular in America….I will give him that!!!  But he is not in the same league as an actor as Benedict Cumberbatch. At all!!!

Three words…LEAVE INDIANA ALONE…What is it with reboots!?! So the fourth film was an epic waste of  our attention with possibly the WORST russian accents ever to grace ANY screen silver or not…but the first three…ohhhhh the first three…just pure beauty in the adventure hall of fame. Don’t get me wrong, Chris Pratt is grand I particularly like his role in Bride Wars (he’s a bit of an a** in that mind)…but the Indy films DO NOT need a reboot, they are on par with E.T or Aliens…just meant to be left alone in their sublime awesomeness…come on Hollywood. ..get an original idea or at least play around with different characterz but STOP REBOOTING…next they’ll be tainting Masters of the Universe in all it’s cheesey Lundgreny glory…oh wait…

that changes per state and definition. in my state only 1st degree murder has premeditation. 2nd and 3rd degree don’t necessarily.
