Square Enix Reveals a Batman Figure From FINAL FANTASY Designer

Final Fantasy and the Dark Knight are colliding at Comic-Con. Square Enix revealed a new figure from their Play Arts Kai line based on Batman and designed by longtime Final Fantasy artist Tetsuya Nomura. Look at that guy. Between all of the armor and edges, you’d think he was some kind of summon from one of the latter-day Final Fantasy titles. Square Enix, please find a way to get “Gotham Defender” into Final Fantasy XV.

Square Enix hasn’t yet provided a release date or pricing for this figure (it doesn’t event have a final name), but if you’re at Comic-Con, the prototype is on display at the Square Enix booth. I had a chance to check it out on the show floor and it’s… shiny. And huge. I think it measures a little bit larger than your average Play Arts figure (it’s hard to tell, because he was posed in a crouch under glass), but I suspect that he measures a little taller and wider than comparable figures like the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Venom Snake on display.

If I had to take a guess, I would suspect that Final Batmantasy here will probably come in a little above the typical $100 USD price tag of other Play Arts figures. Nomura has been working on Final Fantasy since Final Fantasy V, and has – along with Yoshitaka Amano – been instrumental in defining the visual identity of the RPG franchise. Nomura also provided designs for Kingdom Hearts, with figures based on those games making their debut at this year’s Comic-Con.

I was wondering when they were going to make another Gundam Wing movie. Deathscythe is looking pretty badass. Oh wait…nevermind. Even so, I demand they name him Gundam DK. Just for a goof. And you guys can give up on Final Fantasy XV. It will forever be a teaser trailer like Final Fantasy VII HD. Square-enix doesn’t make new games anymore. They just re-release their old ones.
