SPONGEBOB’s Stop-Motion Halloween Special Looks Incredible

The beaches of San Diego are beautiful, but the best place to be in the city today was under the sea at Comic-Con, in the 3D world of Bikini Bottom. That’s because Nickelodeon shared the first footage for their newest stop-motion SpongeBob Squarepants movie, their upcoming Halloween movie The Legend of Boo-kini Bottom.

In this first clip for the not-so-spooky special, we see our favorite underwater denizen clad in a daisy costume and dragging around a passed out Patrick, who is dressed like a knight. That’s when he runs into none other than the Flying Dutchman, who is not okay with SpongeBob’s lack of Halloween fear.

Nick says that to bring the world of SpongeBob and Bikini Bottom to life in 3D involved 27 unique sets on five stages, 15 boxes of breakfast cereal for Bikini Bottom’s coral reefs, eight pounds of glitter for SpongeBob’s Halloween pineapple house, hundreds of popsicle sticks for the planks of the rollercoaster Patrick and SpongeBob will ride, and black lights for the movie’s “glow.”

No word on if catering only supplied Krabby Patties, but we’ll just assume they did.

In addition to the clip, they also released a photo from the special that shows us what the rest of our favorite characters look like in stop-motion animation.

Sorry Flying Dutchman, we aren’t scared either, but we are already ready for Halloween now.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legend of Boo-kini Bottom comes to Nickelodeon this October.
