Spinning Wet Foam in Slow Motion Makes Galaxies

If you don’t yet know The Slow Mo Guys, they are two dudes called Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy who take on the world in slow motion. They shoot HD videos using high-speed cinema cameras and show that even mundane motions are mind-bending. In a recent video, the guys spin a waterlogged foam ball and view it at 1600 frames per second, which reveals hypnotic, split-second galaxies. In their own words, it’s “gnarly.”

In the video above, you can see how simple this trick really is. A foam ball is dipped in water, and then spun high into the air, where the spray of water produces a galaxy-like effect. The guys then squirt some blue coloring to the water, which adds some twinkling stars to the galaxy. Daniel gets covered in the blue dye, but hey, he still looks like he’s having a blast. Our favorite part, though, is when they add the purple. The red ball looks amazing against the purple spray. And you’ve got to watch the whole thing, because the guys get a little playful at the end.

If you want to see more where this came from, the guys have compiled a list of their favorite videos. Give Gavin and Daniel a shout out on Twitter if you feel inspired!

What do you think of their video? What do you think the guys should shoot next? A slow motion movie, perhaps? Let us know in the comments below.
