Spidey-Sense and Sensibility Needs to Be Written Right Now

Jane Austen and comics nerds, unite. Writer Saladin Ahmed has a brilliant suggestion for both fandoms. After the news broke that Spider-Man himself will be coming home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the masses on social media squealed with joy. Naturally, Twitter latched on and started the #PutSpiderManInEveryMovie hashtag. Who says we can’t put Spidey in every movie, right? Some great suggestions were made, including “Fifty Shades of Red,” “Lord of the Web,” and “No Country for Old Spider-Men.” Author Saladin Ahmed tweeted out the greatest crossover of them all, though: “Spider-Sense and Sensibility.”

Best. Idea. Ever. Naturally, Twitter took the idea and ran with it. Artist Adi Fitri illustrated Ahmed’s suggestion into the cover of a book I desperately want someone to write now. Can someone get the publisher of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on the phone, please? This is definitely the next big thing. Spidey and Gwen Stacy would make a spectacular Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, respectively.

Just picture it: Elinor and Marianne roaming the English countryside – rounding up horse thieves and young hooligans. The two chat with the rest of the Dashwood family about the village gossip they’ve read in the town paper, The Daily Bugle. J. Jonah Jameson would make a great Lord, holding fancy dinners and grand parties at his estate. At the end of the day though, Elinor and Marianne always make time to sit down for tea and biscuits. There’s always time for tea and biscuits. I’m going to stop daydreaming, but please aspiring writers, make this mashup happen as soon as possible.

What’s your dream Spidey mashup? Let us know in the comments.
