SPIDER-MAN PS4 Game Teaser Sets the Webslinging Stage

While most of the gaming world spent this weekend freaking all the way out about Super Mario Odyssey, and still enjoying Middle-earth: Shadow of War, we may have forgotten about another upcoming open-world action-adventure game. But one of the coolest things to come out of this year’s E3 was a gameplay trailer for PlayStation 4’s Spider-Man from Insomniac Games, the people behind Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive. On Monday, Marvel released the first cinematic teaser trailer for the game, and it makes our Spidey senses tingle something fierce.

The teaser sets up the game’s continuity of Peter Parker’s Manhattan, where things seem somewhat stable for the first time in a long time. We see Wilson “The Kingpin” Fisk being loaded into a paddy wagon while Norman Osborn–the mayor in this game–runs for reelection. Peter also introduces Miles Morales, which gave us Ultimates Universe fans a thrill. Aunt May works at F.E.A.S.T., a charity that feeds homeless and underprivileged New Yorkers, which was founded by prominent philanthropist Martin Li. Unfortunately, Li also runs a gang under his supervillain alias, Mister Negative. Maybe the city needs Spider-Man more than Peter initially thought.

Much like Rocksteady’s Arkham game series, which created its own unique continuity for Batman, this Spider-Man game looks to be doing the same for their version of the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler. I love that; it gives the player an experience that isn’t simply rehashing a movie or comic book storyline, and from the third-person gameplay we saw this summer, that’s going to mean more excitement for each individual player.

The new Spider-Man game was developed for PlayStation (hey, it’s Sony, what do you expect?) and while there’s no release date given, you can pre-order the game right here right now.

Are you as stoked to take over Peter Parker and Spider-Man as we are? Let us know in the comments below!
