SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Trailer Pit Peter Against The Vulture (and Iron Man!)

Man, this Peter Parker has to hit the ground running. He’s not just taking on ex-Batman Michael Keaton as the Vulture, but as we now see, Bokeem Woodbine as the Shocker and even Tony Stark as Iron Man (whom he’ll butt heads with in a different fashion, but still). It seems the irresponsible creator of Ultron has unrealistic expectations, wanting Spidey to know the thing it took him two sequels to figure out: you have to be a superhero even without the costume. But nobody can stop you coming up with a homemade costume.

Talking that smack after our teenage hero has webbed a boat back together seems a tad harsh, but Tony’s all about the tough love, and the wisecracks: “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man,” it turns out, is a Tony original (Stan Lee must have lost a bet). Michael Keaton, however, as Birdman the Vulture is not so forgiving. And while I may have prematurely worried that his hi-tech wings looked overly like Green Goblin, it’s remarkable how much that fur collar makes him look more and more like the comic Vulture than he ever even looked like Bruce Wayne.

Nice Chris Evans cameo, too. If a superhero had delivered our multimedia class lessons, we’d have liked high school a whole lot more.

So once this is out, we’ll have seen a one-time Batman take on Spider-Man. Does that make the latter more powerful than Superman? Does Superman have an uncle Ben we don’t know about? Hey, with great power comes great franchise crossover incentive. Meanwhile, we’ll salute the movie gods who made Iron Man possible in a Spider-Man movie. We might say it’s the opposite of radioactive.
