SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Is Marvel’s Spidey Reboot’s Official Title

Last week, Sony tipped their hand about the title of the new Spider-Man movie when they registered its domain name. Last night at CinemaCon, Sony made the official announcement. The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of the Spidey franchise will now be known as Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The new Spider-Man, Tom Holland, apparently jumped on a plane to Las Vegas only a few hours after appearing at the world premiere for Captain America: Civil War in Hollywood. Holland told the CinemaCon crowd that the title for the new Spider-Man movie was appropriate because “it really is a homecoming…throughout the movie, Peter is trying to find out who he is and where he belongs in this world.”

As confirmed earlier this week, a few of Marvel’s other superheroes will be appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming. But first, Holland’s Peter Parker will debut in Civil War next month. Holland also unveiled a scene from Civil War [and this is a spoiler for the movie, so stop reading now if you don’t want to know anything] in which Robert Downey, Jr.’s Tony Stark unexpectedly showed up at Peter’s home to recruit him, while telling Peter’s Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) that he was selected for a special Stark Industries program.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7, 2017. Casting is currently underway, and Zendaya was recently confirmed as one of the film’s female leads.

What do you think about the new title for the next Spider-Man movie? Will the sequel be called Spider-Man: Spring Formal? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
