SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Begins Production, Adds New Cast Members

Even after two so-so (or worse) films under the Spider-Man banner, one supporting role in a Captain America movie has made everyone excited again for everybody’s favorite wall-crawler, to the point where any bit of news about the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming is call for speculation. That and the fact that the film is only a few days away from beginning production, and that more cast members have been announced, makes our little spider-loving hearts sing with the promise of what’s to come.

First, the production–which will begin shooting in Atlanta right as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 wraps up–got a nice welcome and vote of confidence from director James Gunn on his Facebook page.

Gunn wished star Tom Holland and director Jon Watts the best and said he’s passing the baton to a nice pair of guys who care about the franchise. Since Gunn is arguably Marvel’s most vocal and known director, his word of welcome carries a fair amount of weight. Plus, how weird to go from a huge space epic to a movie about a high school city kid in the span of a couple weeks? Ah, the magic of movies.

Speaking of high school kids, three young and relatively unknown actors have joined the cast which also includes names like Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Martin Starr, and Logan Marshall-Green. The new names are Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and J.J. Totah, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Not household names to be sure. Amara played young Melissa McCarthy in The Boss; Lindeborg Jr made his feature debut in the Sundance hit The Land set for limited release in July; and Totah just also starred in an impressive Sundance film, Other People, with Jesse Plemons and Molly Shannon.

There’s no word about who the three young actors will play, but it’s a pretty good bet they’ll be fellow students of Peter Parker. I’d put web to window about that (a phrase I’ve just invented).

Let us know what you think about all this awesome Spider-Man: Homecoming news in the comments below!

We have thoughts about who Donald Glover might be playing.
