Speculation Abounds Over Potential Ellie Goulding Bond Song

Ellie Goulding posted a photo on Instagram and a common four word expression on Twitter, and now the rumor mill is burning down the internet. The woman with the Halcyon voice was back in the studio recording new music this past Thursday, confirmed (and this is the extent of anything we can seriously confirm) by the following Instagram post:

Joe caught this moment where we got really excited so much so that I couldn’t sing

While fans rejoiced at the pleasant news of more Goulding earworms in the near future –earworms she seems to be quite pleased with– what really set off the gossip monsters was a vaguely suggestive tweet by the artist later in the day:

Is Goulding referencing 1973’s Live and Let Die, the eighth film in the 007 franchise, with a title track by Paul McCartney’s Wings? Could Goulding’s crystalline harmonics be succeeding Adele, as the new voice for SPECTRE? If the two social media posts are indeed related, as the internet desperately seems to want to believe, then Goulding will be adding yet another film franchise to her already impressive list of soundtrack contributions, including Divergent, Kick-Ass, Twilight, and Fifty Shades of Grey. The James Bond franchise, with its long, celebrated history of iconic tracks, timeless collaborators, and psychedelic title sequences, is arguably the gold standard for theme songs and a unique honor for performers.

These latest rumors come on the heels of Sam Smith putting to rest earlier rumors that he was the front-runner for the position. Speaking with Capital Breakfast radio hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon, Smith said, “I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it, I heard loads of different things but it’s definitely not me… I’d love to do it, it would be a dream.”
