Sorry, But Those Awesome SPACEBALLS 2 Posters in NYC Aren’t Real

If you’ve been in New York City lately you may have felt something awaken. No, not the Force. We’re talking about the Schwartz, because seemingly out of nowhere posters have appeared for Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money. However, don’t grab your Spaceballs lunchbox just yet to start camping out for tickets, because unfortunately these posters are just the work of a fan.

We have reached out to MGM for official word, but we did not hear back before publication. However a source has told us the posters are not from Mel Brooks or the studio, but rather the clever creation of an artist. So that’s a bummer.

However, rather than focus on the negative we can admire them for what they are, and that’s a damn fine poster. JediNewsUK was the first one to spot them, with Dark Helmet’s melted mask an obvious (and pretty great) reference to Darth Vader‘s disfigured helmet, the one that Kylo Ren admires so much in The Force Awakens.

Too bad the awesomeness of the poster just adds to the frustration that they aren’t real!

But there was good reason to think they might be, though, considering it was just last year we told you about Mel Brooks’ plans to finally do a followup to his Star Wars spoof. He told Adam Carolla a sequel was  in the early stages of development, with the hope of filming to start in 2016. So the posters might not be the real deal, but the dream of a sequel continues.

Now someone go get Rick Moranis out of retirement and remind him that good is dumb.

What would you like to see in a Spaceballs sequel? Tell us below.
