SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Movie Gets Motion Poster and Release Date

Update: In less than a year, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie with Ben Schwartz as the voice of the iconic video game character will sprint into theaters. The film has received a new motion poster and an updated release date. Meet Swole Sonic, who looks like after he wins the 100 meter dash will punch your head off. His big screen run will kick off next November 8th, one week earlier than the original premiere date.

Parks and Recreation‘s own Ben Schwartz—who currently plays Dewey on the DuckTales reboot and who will soon take on the role of Leonardo on Nickelodeon’s new Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—once Tweeted he wouldn’t stop until he “voiced every iconic ’90s cartoon character in blue!” That vow is proving to be good as gold, as Schwartz has just being cast as the bluest ’90s cartoon character of them all: Sonic the Hedgehog.

Variety reports that the former esteemed Mr. Jean Ralphio will star opposite Jim Carrey’s Doctor Robotnik in Paramount’s CGI/live-action film based on the beloved Sega Genesis franchise. Schwartz will voice an animated Sonic, but considering how great his own hair is they might want to consider also having him do motion-capture to bring the blue hedgehog to life. (Can they do that with hair? If not, this is the perfect opportunity to figure out how.)

The film will also star James Marsden and Tika Sumpter in yet unspecified leading roles, with director Jeff Fowler making his feature debut on the project. Deadpool director Tim Miller will serve as an executive producer.

Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to start filming this year, with a planned release date of November 15, 2019 a scheduled release date of November 8th, 2019.  That gives Ben Schwartz plenty of time to also land roles as the new voice of Beavis, Buster Bunny, Tommy Pickles, and Homer Simpson’s pants before we see him spin into theaters.
