The first live show for the Nerdist Podcast at San Diego Comic-Con this year saw Chris, Matt, and Jonah chatting with the current Doctor on Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi. During the discussion, Peter made mention several times of a punk band that he was in with actor/comedian/and fellow Scotsman Craig Ferguson. Well it seems that band, The Dreamboys, recorded an EP back in 1980, and user LesterLeapsIn1 got around to putting that EP up on YouTube.
Yes, that is our boy, The Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi on vocals and lead guitar as well as his pal, and former Late Late Show host, Craig Ferguson on the drums. The video is only a little over eight minutes, includes four songs, and is too good to not be shared with the world.
In his interview with Chris, Capaldi seemed almost embarrassed at times about these days, but we all know that our pasts will ultimately shape who we become. Without his punk rock days, would Capaldi’s version of The Doctor truly be who he is? Probably not, because each actor brings parts of themselves to the iconic character, and Capaldi’s Doc Martens comment on his days in a sweater vest under stage lights all too much.
The songs are about as much as one can expect from an early 80s punk band out of Glasgow. There’s nothing mind-blowing about the songs themselves, but we just can not get over hearing Capaldi’s instantly recognizable voice belting out these tunes.
What do you think of The Dreamboys? Do you want a reunion as much as we do? Let us know in the comments below.
