Some Genius Gave Dancing Peacock Spiders Lightsabers

Alright, a few things about this video: no, I don’t know why the spiders are dancing to techno music; no, I don’t know why they have lightsabers; yes, it’s awesome.

If you’ve never liked spiders, peacock spiders — a collection of jumping spider species, Maratus — may change your mind. They have beautifully colored and iridescent abdominal flaps, which they gleefully extend upwards like a DeLorean’s doors during elaborate and adorable courting rituals. Smaller than your pinky fingernail and dancing like there’s no tomorrow, peacock spiders are the MC Hammers of the spider world.

So how do you make an already elaborate, colorful dance even better? Add lighstabers. That’s exactly what YouTuber ROTO SCOPIC has done in the “test footage” at the top of the page, using videos from the aptly named Peacockspiderman. There’s no obvious reason that the video features also bumpin’ techno beats instead of just lightsaber hums and cracks, but then again, there’s no reason to give lightsabers to spiders.

Unless you want to see what a real-world General Grievous would look like.

Awesome.
