A CHARMED Fan Dream Casts the Reboot

A CHARMED Fan Dream Casts the Reboot

Break out your Book of Shadows–there’s a Charmed reboot heading to the CW! While we don’t know much about the show’s plot or characters, the unofficial report from TVLine states that this reboot might be a “prequel-ish reimagining” set in a New England town during the 1970s with a new cast of sisters. But whether they’re rebooting the original series or creating a new take on the witchy universe, the main task at hand is definitely casting. The bond between these magical sisters has to be authentic, which the original Charmed series nailed for eight seasons.

The original Halliwell sisters from WB’s cult series included Shannon Doherty as the oldest sister Prue, Holly Marie Combs as the middle sister Piper, Alyssa Milano as the youngest sister Phoebe, and the lost Halliwell sister in later seasons, Paige, portrayed by Rose McGowan. And we can’t forget Leo–the Whitelighter a.k.a. magical guide and love interest character played by Brain Krause–whom the new series should definitely consider adding to the reboot cast because he matched each of the sisters perfectly in different ways AND provided much needed magical context.

Unofficial character descriptions for this reboot includes three main characters, presumably sisters like the Halliwells: clever and reserved Tina, sweet and family-oriented Paige (no relation to the original Paige), and intense and tough-as-nails Annie. But until we get something shiny and official, we’ve decided to fan-cast the Power of Three (and then some) based on the quirks and traits of the original characters. We’re taking into consideration their general ages, but everything and anything else for this new show’s main cast of characters is up for grabs.

The Oldest Sister

  • Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them) has already proven her acting chops as a marvelous witch in one of the most popular fantasy series ever. If only she could bring along some of Giggle Water to share with the Charmed Ones…
  • Dascha Polanco (Daya in Orange Is The New Black) definitely gives off big sister vibes and can hold her own with quick dialogue and heavy themes. We can see already her cautioning her sisters and clutching the Book of Shadows during tough times.
  • Zoë Kravitz (Angel Salvadore in X-Men: First Class) because who wouldn’t want the devastatingly cool daughter of Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet to be their magical big sister? Though she’s doing just fine in films of all sizes, we wouldn’t hate seeing her grace our screens.
  • Chloe Bennet (Skye Johnson/Quake in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) has already nailed sci-fi for Marvel, so hopping over to a more supernatural series wouldn’t be a huge change for her budding career. Though, we’d have to find a way for her to do both shows… Maybe a Time Turner?

The Middle Sister

  • Diane Guerrero (Maritza Ramos in Orange Is the New Black) adds a refreshing punch of reality to everything she’s a part of, including Lina in Jane The Virgin. It’d be fun to see how she’d handle a slightly witchier role.
  • Lily Collins (Snow White in Mirror Mirror) might not be a household name, but we think that makes her a perfect choice for the misunderstood middle sister. She also starred in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones as Clary Fray, which was pretty magic-heavy too.
  • Zazie Beetz (Vanessa “Van” in Atlanta) was absolutely EVERYTHING in Atlanta this year and we want more from her! A middle child from the late ’70s would be a great fit for her wit and style.
  • Samira Wiley (Poussey Washington in Orange Is the New Black) is a marvelous actress (we’re still not over the end of last season) and though we saw her in a new role in You’re The Worst, we simply can’t get enough of Wiley.

The Youngest Sister

  • Alice Englert (Lena Duchannes in Beautiful Creatures) already portrayed a young witch of sorts, but we’d like to see her translate her magical talent to the small screen. She could absolutely bring the melodrama and heavy sobs.
  • Cierra Ramirez (Mariana Adams-Foster in The Fosters) legit looks the part of the giddy youngest sister; sensitive but proud of her powers. Plus, we’d love to see her try her comedic chops out on a more genre-heavy series.
  • Keke Palmer (Zayday Williams in Scream Queens) could bring a rebellious streak to the younger sister, and she’s not afraid to go all out. We could see her character being the one that tries out all sorts of wacky new spells and shrugs it off no matter the consequences.
  • Jessica Sula (Grace Blood in Skins UK) has the sweetest Welsh accent ever, so maybe the youngest Charmed One was sent off to boarding school and reunites with her sisters in the States? Anything to get her back into a re-occurring role!

lost-sister

The Lost Sister

  • Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Paige in Daredevil) was a great fantasy-character as Jessica Hamby in True Blood. And after her recent Marvel work, she’s proving to be a top-notch re-occurring actress for a series.
  • Eiza González (Santanico Pandemonium in From Dusk till Dawn: The Series) is a wildcard but an up-and-coming actress in the U.S. As a lost-but-found sister she might give the perfect amount of sass and shade to the already established sisters.
  • Alexandra Shipp (Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse), because the sci-fi and fantasy world needs more of her on screen. She could even keep the rad mohawk and be ready for the ’80s in this reboot.
  • Ruby Rose (Stella Carlin in Orange is the New Black) could be something special as a main character in a series. Why not break into the sci-fi and fantasy genre as a Charmed One, slinging all sorts of renegade spells around?

whitelighter

The Magical Guide

  • Christopher Wood (Mon-El in Supergirl) has the whole courageous superhero thing down already–which is pretty much what ever Whitelighter aspires to. His character would be a dashing fit for the Power of Three.
  • Ryan Guzman (Carlos Gutierrez in Heroes Reborn) is a bit of the brooding type (he could also play Cole, to be honest) but mostly we’d just love to see a musical episode where the mystical guide has to do a Step Up-esque dance number.
  • Jaden Smith (Dre Parker in The Karate Kid) … okay, hear us out… Leo was a newbie Whitelighter, so Jaden’s obscure charm and age might play to this character’s strengths in refreshing new ways.
  • Uzo Aduba (Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” in Orange is the New Black) is the type of charismatic actress you fall in love with quickly–so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch if one of the Charmed Ones also fell in love with her too, right? Right??

Who do you want to see in the Charmed reboot? What do you hope this new Power of Three will bring to the series? Leave us your Charmed fan-cast below and check back in here for more news!
