A short time ago, on a weekend very, very recently, Lucasfilm showed us how our favorite space smuggler got his start in the criminal underworld. On today’s (spoiler-filled) Nerdist News Talks Back we broke down everything from Solo: A Star Wars Story, from what we liked and didn’t, what the box office return might mean for the future of the franchise, and how important that cameo could end up being.

Host Jessica Chobot set off for the galaxy far, far away with producer Jesse Gill, editor Kyle Anderson, and Nerdist News writer Aliza Pearl. What did we think of the movie? Did it live up to our expectations? Could we tell which scenes were directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord and not Ron Howard? Did we prefer how the film had fewer callbacks than Rogue One, or were there still too many of them? And despite making 100 million over the four-day holiday weekend, the film did open below box office estimates. Is this a troubling sign for the entire franchise, or is this related to the film’s problems during production?

Then of course there was that shocking cameo, which might have left audiences split. What did we think of Darth Maul’s surprise return? What does this mean for the future of other standalone films? Will the former Sith Lord only appear in other Solo movies, or as an underworld crime boss might we also see him in a Boba Fett or Obi-Wan movie?

What did we think of the film’s action scenes? Which new character was our favorite? Who was the film’s MVP? Where does this rank on our Star Wars movie list? And maybe the most important question of them all–what kind of tacos do we want from Amy Vorpahl who bet us Solo would open bigger than Infinity War? (Yes, she really made that bet. And yes, it was of her own free will. No one cheated her like Lando at a Sabacc table.)
