Will SOLO Have the Biggest STAR WARS Opening Weekend Ever?

For all of the issues surrounding the film Solo: A Star Wars Story is on pace to have the biggest opening weekend in the history of the galaxy far, far away. On today’s Nerdist News Talks Back we discussed our expectations for the movie, who could be tapped to direct a Black Widow film, and which character we hope to see on the big screen in He-Man.

Jessica Chobot was back in her host’s chair today, and she was joined by producers Ben McShane and Kate Meyers and editor Kyle Anderson. They began with the latest from Solo, which somehow is only three weeks away, and in a new commercial for the movie we finally heard from Jon Favreau’s character Rio Durant. What do we make of his space monkey? Are we digging the whole Western vibe the film is leaning into? And with Deadline reporting it’s on pace for a Star Wars record-breaking opening weekend do we think it will also have staying power at the box office?

Speaking of money-printing Disney franchises, Marvel has reportedly met with over 65 directors for a potential Black Widow film. Who would we like to see in charge? Has the time for this movie passed already? And if they are making it, what story arc from the comics would we like to see them adapt?

Finally, the mavens of casting news at The Hashtag Show have a long and exciting list of which characters could end up in the He-Man movie. Which ones are we hoping to see? Who isn’t on the list that should be? And what’s our favorite moment from the show (or toys)?

Nerdist News Talks Back airs live at 1PM PT Monday through Thursday on our YouTube and Alpha channels, and tomorrow we end the week with our hour-long entertainment recap Nerdist News What the Fridays at 1PM PT, exclusively at Alpha. Make sure you tune in with us so you can talk more Solo with us before it comes to theaters, which somehow is basically tomorrow.

We still want to hear your thoughts on today’s show, so talk back to us in the comments below.
