SNL Recap: Scarlett Johansson and Wiz Khalifa

Scarlett Johansson might be best known at the moment for her role as Natasha Romanoff a/k/a Black Widow in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but she also never disappoints as a SNL host. This week Johansson sang, danced, and brought the funny to her third time hosting the late-night sketch show, even in the wake of “The Fight of the Century.” Check out our recap of the episode below!

Right Side of the Bed with Scarlett Johansson

One of my favorite reoccurring sketches for so many reasons, Johansson joined Taran Killam and Cecily Strong on the Atlanta based morning show “Right Side of the Bed” to make mint juleps.

Orioles

Saturday Night Live made a lot of references to the demonstrations coming out of Baltimore this week, including a sketch based around the Orioles game that was played to an empty stadium. In a funny, yet pointed way, Taran Killam and Keenan Thompson’s sports announcers did their best to talk about the game without referencing what was going on in the city.

Black Widow Trailer

If there was one sketch this week that will surely get people talking, it was the mock trailer for the standalone Black Widow movie. From Marvel, the studio that “gets women,” comes the story of Black Widow, a girl living in the big city, trying to navigate life, love and a whole lot more! Poking fun at the idea that the superhero universes we all know and love have no idea what to do with their female characters in a solo movie comes Black Widow: Age of Me, hitting theaters Valentine’s Day 2016 from the writers of 27 Dresses and Marvel Studios; “we know girls!”

Weekend Update: Game of Thrones‘s Samwell Tarly and Gilly

Weekend Update had some fun guests this week including Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the hottest couple in Westeros, Samwell Tarly and Gilly! Watch as co-anchor Colin Jost talks paparazzi and incest with the power couple behind the Update desk.

Weekend Update: Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal on the NBA Playoffs

It was a big week for professional sports and Saturday Night Live certainly took notice. In addition to the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, The Kentucky Derby, and The Stanley Cup Playoffs, Weekend Update featured Keenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah as NBA superstars Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal to discuss the NBA Playoffs. The two actors were clearly getting a kick out of each other and Pharoah, who is known for his spot-on impressions, is always hilarious as the former Orlando Magic athlete.

Blazer

As both a parody of ’80’s cop shows and commentary on police brutality, the “Blazer” sketch starring Taran Killam was a highlight of the week. Although it didn’t feature host Scarlett Johansson, it’s definitely still worth a watch.

Virgin Flight

Having fun with faulty technology, sexism and airline travel, the “Virgin Flight” sketch featured Johansson and Vanessa Bayer as two top of the line robot flight attendants. “Happy Halloween!”

Overall there were a lot of highlights from this week on SNL, thanks in large part to Johansson being such a versatile host. Not much was off limits for her and she displayed a variety of fun and whacky characters. What were some of your favorite sketches of the night?
Saturday Night Live returns next week with host Reese Witherspoon and musical guest Florence + The Machine.
