Sneak Peeks at THE FORCE AWAKENS Post-Production Process

The soundscape of Star Wars is a key piece of the saga. The original trilogy was recognized for its work in sound design and editing, and The Force Awakens recently received an Oscar nomination in that category (we interviewed Matt Wood and David Acord about the sound in the film). When so much work goes into creating sound effects and music, you want them to be delivered in the highest quality possible. This also applies to the visuals–obviously. But what is the best of the best these days? The folks behind The Force Awakens decided to go with Dolby to showcase the sights and sounds of film. Now, Dolby has released a series of short videos discussing the benefits of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos and how it contributed to the quality of the movie.

Bad Robot co-producer Ben Rosenblatt appears in all the videos and along with others, including the re-recording mixer on The Force Awakens, he gives insight into some of the post-production techniques. They discuss topics like designing the location of the sounds in key scenes such as the epic battle between Rey and Kylo Ren, ensuring the music of John Williams was presented at optimum levels, and so much more. These videos make me long for the release of The Force Awakens on Blu-ray and all the behind-the-scenes goodies that will come with it.

Did you see The Force Awakens in a Dolby Atmos theater? What did you think of the experience? Talk to me in the comments.
