Slurpee-Flavored Donuts Are a Thing Now

When you think of endless lottery tickets, hot dogs rotating on warm treadmills, and a wall of colorful frozen beverages, you might be in heaven… or you might be in 7-Eleven. This year, the international convenience store is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and is no doubt marking the occasion by clinking plastic cups full of Slurpees.

To celebrate the big five-oh, 7-Eleven recently held their annual #BYOCupDay, during which you can fill up any cup (within reason, put the kiddie pool away) with your favorite Slurpee. To take it one slushy beverage further, they also introduced a new Frankenstein’s monster of a food combo: the Wild Cherry Slurpee Donut.

How many @Slurpee donuts can I fit in a large @7eleven cup? 🍒

This hybrid is a pink Slurpee-flavored cake donut with a wild-cherry glaze and sugar crystal topping. The crystals make it look like ice, see? Genius. The only disappointment is there is no actual Slurpee involved; the refreshment only serves as inspiration. Personally, I think they should have taken it a step further and filled the donut with a squirt full of Slurpee—like a jelly donut but filled with icy frozen liquid. Sure, it sounds awful, but we’re talking about food reinvention, here.

While baked goods may not provide the same cool satisfaction of a frozen beverage on a hot day, these Slurpee donuts are a fun mashup for celebrating the popular slushy drink. How do they taste? The Internet seems to be split, so let’s just say they probably taste Instagram-worthy and leave it at that. At least it’s a sure way to avoid brain freeze.
