Slap These New THE TICK Images in Your Eye Holes

Sometimes I hear about a project and think, “Oh man, that sounds great, I hope I get to see it soon.” The new Amazon Studios series based on Ben Edlund’s cult comic book The Tick is one of those projects. There have already been two series — a super awesome cartoon from 1994 and a way-better-than-the-ratings-suggested live-action series from 2001 — based on the property, but the idea of putting it on a bingeable streaming site, and starring the supremely hilarious Peter Serafinowicz, made this prospect that much sweeter. “When can I see it!?!” I said to myself. August 19 is the answer, and there are new pictures to boot!

The pilot for the new The Tick will premiere on August 19 on Amazon Prime as one of three pilots to hit the streaming service with the chance of getting picked up. To say nothing of how awesome the idea of a series based on the Wild Blue Yonder that isn’t hamstrung by network primetime rules, the pilot has some truly amazing talent attached including director Wally Pfister, the cinematographer of such films as The Dark Knight.

Edlund said in a statement that the series will live in today’s world of superhero saturation, and attack topics in a real and absurd way, as is the norm for him. “Is it a radically new hybrid of humor and super heroic action with characters you will care desperately about?” Edlund asked himself rhetorically. “YES! Yes it is.”

The new pictures in the gallery below show what is likely early in the relationship between the Tick and Arthur (Griffin Newman), his sidekick who will eventually don a moth costume and give up his regular life to join the weird blue fella.

Mark your calendars now, folks; watch early, watch often, and yell “spoon” every time you do.
