There are few things we love more than when someone makes an inspired fan project, made out of love, and gets their love returned from the creators. The latest example of this from Hollywood is once again the creative team behind America’s favorite family, The Simpsons.

Last week, an amazing video premiered of the famed Simpsons opening done as 16-bit styled pixel animation. Through its slightly expanded look at Springfield and an ending that seemed to never end, we found the video very bitiful… we mean beautiful. And, by we, we also mean Simpsons showrunner Al Jean.

This Sunday, the opening is going to be swapped out for its pixely animated counter-part, though at this time we don’t know if that’s going to include the full version, or a slightly edited one meant to fit the television run time.

The show may sometimes take flack for having overstayed its welcome, but when it does something like this, it proves how truly current and connected the team behind the series really is. They could have easily ignored it or, worse, slapped the video with a copyright infringement notice. But, instead, the video’s creator is going to have a dream realized, and that’s dope.

The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8/7c on Fox.
