Simone Missick May Play Misty Knight in Marvel’s LUKE CAGE Series

Earlier today, Theo Rossi and Rosario Dawson joined the cast of Marvel’s Luke Cage series on Netflix. Now, the female lead in Luke Cage has been cast and it’s potentially great news for long time Marvel fans!

Simone Missick has signed on to star opposite Mike Colter’s title character in Luke Cage. And Missick is rumored to be playing Misty Knight, the Marvel heroine who has headlined Daughters of the Dragon, Heroes for Hire, and The Fearless Defenders. Missick has previously appeared in Ray Donovan, Everything I Did Wrong in My 20s, and A Taste of Romance.

Misty Knight was created in 1975 by Tony Isabella and Arvell Jones. In her backstory, Knight was a NYPD officer who was severely injured in a bomb attack. After the loss of her right arm, Knight was given an artificial arm created by Tony Stark before she started her own detective agency.

For the Luke Cage live-action series, the character was called “Missy” in the casting breakdown, and described as “a woman with a strong sense of justice.” That definitely sounds like Misty Knight, and the initial report on Deadline indicates that is whom Missick will be playing.

In the Marvel comic book universe, Misty Knight was a longtime ally and even a lover for Luke Cage. However, Knight has been more frequently linked with Iron Fist, a.k.a. Danny Rand, as a romantic partner. Knight also formed a duo with Colleen Wing as the Daughters of the Dragon. Wing has yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the Luke Cage or Iron Fist series would be an ideal time to bring both Daughters of the Dragon into the MCU.

Marvel’s Luke Cage will premiere in 2016 on Netflix.
