Simon Pegg Heads to China in the HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS Trailer

After last summer’s double whammy of Simon Pegg-filled blockbusters, Star Trek Into Darknesss and The World’s End, we knew the actor had to be searching for his next project. Well, the trailer for Hector and the Search for Happiness dropped today and appears to have our answer.

The Hector in question is played by none other than The Cornetto Trilogy star Simon Pegg. Hector is a locked-in-routine psychiatrist frustrated by his inability to help his patients, so he decides to travel the world to find out what makes other people happy. In the process, he leaves behind his equally frustrated girlfriend (Rosamund Pike) who’s getting a little fed up with her emotionally-stunted boyfriend. Along the way, Hector will meet some locals and presumably get into some trouble all while trying to find himself.

Hector and the Search for Happiness is the latest from director Peter Chelsom (Serendipity, Hannah Montana: The Movie), adapting the French novel of the same name by author François Lelord. Based on the trailer, it looks like it’ll be working from the same playbook as last year’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (man suffering from arrested emotional development has to leave his familiar surroundings in order to find something important, finds the true meaning of his own life).

Hector and the Search for Happiness will be making its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, followed by screenings in New York and L.A. on September 19, with a limited rollout throughout the rest of the country on September 26. Relativity will release the film wide on October 3.

Meanwhile, Pegg’s got a busy release calendar for the next few months: he lent his voice to Laika’s The Boxtrolls, he’s playing a mustachioed hard case in Kill Me Three Times, and he gets magical powers in Absolutely Anything for Monty Python’s Terry Jones.
