Should Scientists Make a Real-World JURASSIC PARK?

Is the world ready for the return of dinosaurs? When John Hammond envisioned a gigantic theme park where mankind could frolic with the dinosaurs on the lavish private island of Isla Nublar, he didn’t stop ask his scientists whether he should bring the dinosaurs back, but rather only if they could. Playing god with the DNA of long-extinct animals sounded good on paper, but it led to a series of the most ill-advised theme park openings of all time, countless casualties, and the abject shirtlessness of Jeff Goldblum. (There’s a silver lining to every cloud, after all.)

While the Jurassic Park series serves as a didactic case study in how mankind’s arrogance, avarice, and inability to comprehend the consequences of our actions, the real world is hurtling ever closer towards making the resurrection of long-extinct species a reality: A group of scientists are feverishly working to bring the wooly mammoth back to life; Barbra Streisand cloned her dead dog–twice; and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom science advisor Dr. Jack Horner says that the genetic science behind the fan-favorite films isn’t as far removed from reality as one might think. In other words, Jurassic Park could one day become a reality. The real question, though, as John Hammon forgot to ponder so long ago, is whether or not they should?

To find out, our reporter Markeia McCarty traveled to Hawaii to interview the cast and crew of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom about their thoughts on if we should actually try to bring back the dinosaurs. What did Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, and director J.A. Bayona have to say? Well, watch the video above and find out.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens everywhere on June 22, 2018. Read our spoiler-free review!
