Shoot A Nerf Gun At Ducks Via Twitter. No, Really

I get a lot of press releases. Most don’t lend themselves to doing anything with them. But when a press release combines Nerf and Twitter, I’m in. I CAN’T RESIST NERF.

And so, here’s something Philadelphia ad agency Neiman came up with, “Tweet to Shoot.” The idea is that between 10 am and 5 pm ET today and tomorrow (9/13-14), if you tweet anything with the hashtag #TweetToShoot, a Nerf gun will fire a Nerf dart at a duck in a recreated version of the old NES game Duck Hunt. Then you can see your shot fire off and your Twitter handle on the scoreboard at tweettoshoot.neimanlabs.com.

Why? The hell if I know, or care. It’s remote-controlled Nerf Duck Hunt. That’s all I need to know.

Okay, a little more. The ad agency is using this as a promotional thing to show how to use Twitter to do things like remotely trigger a coupon to be dispensed in-store when a consumer tweets a particular hashtag and I’m already bored and want to get back to Arduino Uno-controlled Nerf guns. You can read the press release here if you’re into advertising concepts and stuff. Or go tweet ‘n’ shoot, which is what you really want to do.

UPDATE: I’m on the board! (@pmsimon):

This is brilliant, fun and ridiculous…the perfect triumvirate! I’ve done it at least 5 times this morning. Probably would lose followers…if I had any.
