Sex Nerd Sandra #121: Sex & Jesus

FORNICATION! HEDONISM! SPILLING THY SEED!!! The marvelous Reverend Beverly Dale sheds light on Jesus, the Bible and how to connect our sexuality with spirituality. TOPICS: Liberation Theology, Defining “Grace,” Jesus’ Social Life, Being Human AND Divine, Pre-Marital Sex, Non-Marital Sex, “Sexual Immorality,” the Marriage Covenant, Pleasure vs Hedonism, Pleasure as Worship, Lust, Adultery Now vs Then, Mortifying the Flesh, Celebrating God’s Creation, Homosexuality, Acknowledging the Human Condition, Judgement vs Compassion and when to check yourself before you wreck yourself!

Reverend Beverly Dale is a published writer, vocalist, and performer, in addition to being an ordained minister. Her ministry has taken her from being a Pastor in a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) parish in Illinois for 6 years to 21 years of campus ministry at the University of Pennsylvania. Now she tours her original theater piece An Irreverent Journey from Eggbeaters to Vibrators for largely secular audiences and leads workshops, usually within a Christian context.

Her ministry has a very specific and unique focus: to help people of faith heal from the sexual wounding that occurs when they are taught to separate the spirit from the body, and also to provide tools for those who are developing a Christian theology that affirms the body and pleasure as God-given.

“Rev. Bev” can be contacted through her website.  You can also sign up for email updates and to connect with her on Facebook.

    Loved this episode

great episode, although please research all of the rev’s claims before accepting them. many sources needed!

i believe she’s throwing the baby out with the bath water on a lot of these issues. she’s swung too far in the opposite direction if that makes sense.

the key for me is grace, -where all frameworks, morals, condemnation and rules grow dim and pointless. listen to Tullian Tchividjian and Judah Smith podcasts, awesome preachers.

A fine episode…and it’s always fun to have the record set straight about Onan the Withrawal Method user…(as opposed to Barbarian, Librarian, or masturbator, unless all non-procreation sex is “masturbation”). Writer James Blish, iirc, once named a pet parakeet Onan since he, too, spilled his seed upon the ground…millet and such in his case.

Thanks SO MUCH for doing this interview. I had never heard your podcast before and saw it on the sidebar here at Nerdist. I’ve been wrestling with a lot of issues with religion lately and this podcast was really inspiring to give me a new perspective on religion, specifically Christianity. It made me look at my changing beliefs through a new lens. Thank you again and I can’t wait to go back and listen to all the previous Podcasts! 🙂
