Seth Meyers Shows Why Jon Snow is the Worst Dinner Guest

It’s no secret that Seth Meyers is a huge Game of Thrones fan, as really anyone should be. High fantasy mixed with violence and sex; I mean, what could literally be better? It’s got some heavy stuff going on and there’s death and doom imminent almost every step of the way, but most of the characters seem to be able to add a little bit of levity to cut through the tension. MOST. The show’s ostensible hero Jon Snow, or at least one of the only truly noble characters anyway, rarely cracks a smile and is usually talking about the fate of the realm and White Walkers and crap like that. Lighten up, Jonny!

A sketch on Late Night with Seth Meyers illustrates the incessant dourness of Jon “You knuuuh nuuuuuuuuuuthin” Snuh with Kit Harington playing his character with the same intensity and urgency as he does on the show, but in a dinner party setting. Lutz is there! Seth thinks he ought to lighten up, which probably wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings, but Jon’s really had a lot of sadness and hardship, which is sort of laughable in such a context. He’s very bad at small talk, but he sure can weave a yarn.

Funny/true story. Two years ago at San Diego Comic-Con, I was in an elevator and Kit Harington and his people got in as well and the actor said “I’m not sure what floor we need,” and it took every ounce of my restraint to not geek out and say, “You know nothing Kit Harington!” I’d like you all to applaud my restraint.

Game of Thrones returns Sunday, April 12, on HBO and Late Night with Seth Meyers is on 5 nights a week on NBC.
