See Mahiro Maeda’s Designs for a MAD MAX Anime

The road to make Mad Max: Fury Road was just as long as the one in the film. Development of the George Miller film took over a decade and there were detours along the way. Well, maybe detour doesn’t apply in this case. The possibility of a Mad Max anime was more of a parallel path. The anime would have been a prequel focused on Imperator Furiosa. Yes, I also want to see this immediately. Like, yesterday. The project was sadly put aside, but thanks to the upcoming release of Fury Road in Japan, we finally get a look at some of the designs by Mahiro Maeda (Castle in the Sky, Kill Bill Vol. 1). You can see them in the above video but here are a few screen grabs:

I understand the chances of ever getting the anime are slim, but could we maybe have a book of Maeda’s designs? Because I need to see the entire world of Mad Max in this style.

Miller discussed the anime with Cinema Blend a couple of months ago and said the anime story came about as a result as digging into Furiosa’s backstory. It got pushed to the side because of delays in making Fury Road. Miller said, “We were going to do it, but with the second delay we were rained out, and it fell apart. And by the time that we had to scramble to get the movie going again we just had no time to get involved. It was a casualty of the delay.”

Would you like to see a Mad Max anime about Furiosa or any other character? Let me know in the comments.
