See Chewbacca, Mario, Michael Myers and More Painted into Thrift Store Art

As the old saying goes, “I may not know art, but I know what I like. Chewbacca, for instance.” I may be embellishing part of that, but it rings true for the vast majority of us nevertheless. This is evidenced by the growing popularity of Dave Pollot, a software engineer by trade and painter by passion who transposes characters from our favorite geek-friendly movies, television shows, and video games into the tranquil settings of thrift store paintings.

Pollot has been tampering in the hobby for some time now, and has added some new gems to his lineup as recently as last week, as we discovered by way of Laughing Squid. Apropos of the season, Pollot committed Halloween‘s iconic villain Michael Myers to one such painting, rendering an otherwise peaceful lakeside scene downright nightmarish.

Of course, not all of Pollot’s works thrive on the eerie. The aforementioned Wookiee bounty hunter evokes a sense of comfort as he stands tall and proud in a woodland setting reminiscent of his Kashyyyk home world. Mario sleeps serenely beside a humble ranch, guarded by a faithful Piranha Plant friend. Harry Potter‘s Dobby hesitantly enjoys his first trip to the beach.

…But if you are still sating your post-Halloween craving for all things spooky, that seems to be Pollot’s specialty. Along with Michael Myers, he’s painted Chucky, the The Shining sisters, and The Exorcist‘s Father Merrin into the same style of picture. Check below and see which of Pollot’s works you like best! If you really love ’em, you can even buy a few on Etsy.

What do you think of the paintings? Let us know!
