Season 5 Confirmed! No Rest for THE WALKING DEAD on AMC!

“Raaaaaattttinnngggsss!”

That’s what the zombies of programming over at AMC are moaning today, as Deadline.com is reporting the cable network has confirmed its commitment to the high-rated series The Walking Dead by renewing it for a fifth season.

AMC President Charlie Collier said, “We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: The Walking Dead is renewed for a fifth season,” before eating a Nielsen family, climbing into his gold-plated replica of the Breaking Bad RV and speeding off to the AMC offices, located in an underground bunker deep below New Mexico.

That last part isn’t true, but Collier (who we’re hoping has a great sense of humor) did praise the show by saying, “This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently – and most notably – with the season four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest non-sports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more Dead.”

More good news is that Scott Gimple will continue as showrunner along with EPs Gale Anne Hurd and (series creator) Robert Kirkman. No air date was announced, but considering this is AMC’s biggest show, I imagine you won’t have to wait long to get your next zombie fix.
