Screamfest Celebrates 15th Anniversary in Los Angeles

We are currently in the thick of Nerdoween, and things are getting scary here in Los Angeles. Screamfest, the largest and longest running horror film festival in the US, kicks off tonight at the TCL Theatres in Hollywood. Running from October 13 through October 22, the festival opens with anthology flick Tales of Halloween, which features shorts by Axelle Carolyn, Neil Marshall, Lucky McKee, Darren Lynn Bousman, Mike Mendez and others.

“We received record number of submissions this year ranging from micro-budgets to larger scale productions, first-time and iconic directors. We are very excited about the eclectic mix of films this year and retrospectives,” said Screamfest founder Rachel Belofsky. She wasn’t kidding. This year’s festival marks the world premieres of titles like Condemned and The Labyrinth, as well as controversial titles like the US remake of Marytrs and Saul Bass’s un-cut Phase IV with its original ending. Plus, there will be a free screening of the documentary Game Changer: The Legacy of Saw and a 10th-anniversary screening of John Gulager’s Feast (including a cast and crew Q&A after the film). With that kind of lineup, Screamfest is sure to bring you the best and the goriest of the genre, just in time for the Halloween season.

Finally, to close things out, Screamfest will host the world premiere of the final chapter in the Paranormal Activity franchise, The Ghost Dimension, on Thursday, October 22.

Film tickets and passes are currently on sale through the Screamfest website where you can find the schedule and guest list, too.

What movies are you most looking forward to this year, Halloweenies? Scream about it in the comments!
