Wipe the blood from your teeth and get in the pit, it’s time for a recap of this week’s best hardcore, metal, and punk rock. Need some heavy tunes to jazz up your boring ol’ Superbowl party? You’ve come to the right place, because we’ve picked our favorite jams to toss the pigskin around to. Ready, set, hike, let’s get brutal.

We’re almost to the release of the new Magrudergrind album (Feb 12) and new tracks are slowly starting to premiere. Below, we have “Black Banner” which is a long one by Magrudergrind standards. It certainly shows how the band has grown since their last recording came out 6 years ago. It’s big, more epic, than most of their stuff. It’s also unmistakably Magrudergrind, pulverizing, punishing, and violent. Crank this one loud and scare off your neighbors, you don’t need those jerks hanging around anyway.

The Body and Full of Hell’s collaboration was announced a while back, but you can finally pre-order the thing from Neurot Recordings. In anticipation, they’ve released the track “The Little Death” and it pretty sounds like exactly what you would expect. One part The Body, one part Full of Hell, mix for six minutes, and serve. Intense stuff with moments of real beauty, this collaboration is shaping up to be a true “must own.” It’s perfect to have on when guests come over to use your sacrificial alter.

Black Black Black are offering up a track called “Let’s Bloodlet” and holy crap it’s awesome. Featuring vocal guest Dave Curran (Unsane), the track hits hard, like a swaggering, boozy drunk. It’s rocking, punk, and catchy as all hell. You can, and should, dance to this stuff, it’s got that much groove going on. Of course, given the presence of Curran, it’s still brutally fierce. This week also had the premiere of the new low-fi album from the punks known as Aksumite. The album captures the sound of recording yourself on a cassette tape in your parents’ garage. It’s roomy, like the band is playing just down the hall from you and you’re hearing the screaming and thrashing as it bounces of the walls and rattles books off your shelves. This is seriously rad music that feels like it was born in a different era, like that randomly discovered 7-inch you find while digging through a crate at the record store.

Decent Criminal dropped a mighty fine punk record at the end of January. The California band has a beachy feel, a sound that blends perfect with the classic punk bands of the coast. The guitar solo near the end of the track is something right out of Tetris, which is a good thing, I think. Either way, it’s hard to not love this stuff. Those of us who grew up with bands like the Descendents will find lots to love in the Decent Criminal’s new album. Raw, emotional, and energetic, this is pop, garage punk at its best. Love it.

In the interest of the big pigskin game, let’s take a trip back in time to 2007 and enjoy some Pig Destroyer. It seems appropriate to crank this thing to eleven and thoroughly bum out those free-loading friends of yours that come over to eat your ships and drink your beer on game day. Get lost, bums!

Let’s get creepy with the new video from Seven Sisters of Sleep! The video is for the track “War Master” it’s a total creep fest. That guy with the skull on his hand is going to haunt my nightmares (go away Creepy-Skull Guy). Anyway, the track appears on their album Ezekiel’s Hags, which is an amazing record that already has a spot on our “Best of” list for 2016. If you have not checked this one out yet, do so immediately. Seven Sisters of Sleep have delivered the goods, big time.  Roll the creepy footage!

Finally, Boris with Merzbow (a collaboration between Boris and Merzbow, as you probably guessed) and it’s a rather noisy affair. Drenched in feedback, these rockers play heavy music that sounds like it is constantly on the verge of fall apart into  and crumbling into a sea of atmosphere and distortion. Part noise, part post metal, Boris with Merzbow deliver somthing truly unique and immensely interesting here. It’s haunting stuff, but strangely without filler. Just ugliness, from start to finish. Ugly is good. Ugly is very good. We need music to be ugly sometimes.
