Scream At a Wall: Our Favorite Hardcore, Punk, and Metal Releases of the Week

Wipe the blood from your teeth and get in the pit, it’s time for a recap of this week’s best hardcore, metal, and punk rock. We dug through the record crates to find the new tunes we think you need to spin and rage to. Strap in, kiddies, it’s time to rock.

The Ramones Simpsons Style

The new Baroness single is pretty damn good. This is the second track they’ve release from their forthcoming Purple album and it heavily showcases the bands growth. It has pretty, sullen piano opening before the riffs kick in Certainly, this is the bands most melodic, mainstream friendly stuff to date, but that doesn’t make it any less kick-ass.

The not-a-punk-band known as The Dirty Nil have put out a video for their punk rock sounding song “No Weaknesses”. It’s a rocking tune that’ll be featured on their new album, which is due early next year. Punk or not, it’s a great song with a bizarre workout video. check it out below.

The new Black Tusk album isn’t due until the end of January, but they are already sharing the opening track and it’s a brutal beauty. Seriously, the second I heard this I preordered the full record. The album, Pillars of Ash, is the last to feature bass player and founding member, Jonathan Athon. Athon died last year in a motorcycle accident, a tragedy that was felt throughout the metal community. If this track is any indication, Pillars of Ash will be a mighty tribute to a fallen friend.

Somedays, you just need grindcore. Just furious, blistering music that fuels your rage and feeds your internal fire. If today is that day for you, then check out some Cloud Rat. It’s punishing stuff that’ll tear through your senses. Cloud Rat is the real deal, and fans of grinding, violent music need to spin this one. Ugly, brutal, and fast, this is just what the doctor ordered. Assuming your doctor prescribes blast beats, screams, and feedback.

We already shared a new Malfunction track a while back, but they whole album is now up for stream. These guys bring the hardcore and the album sounds rad. It’s out now via Bridge Nine, and they are also out on tour with the utterly amazing Code Orange, so if you need to rage, check to see if they are hitting your town anytime soon. Finally, if you are looking for something new, check out Rothschild. These Texas boys are making some awesome heavy music that feels unique and exciting. Just when you think you have their sound pegged, they shift and blast into your brain waves with a crushing fury. Watch out for these guys; big stuff coming in the future, no doubt.

That’s it for this week, so go forth; throw some horns up and keep spinning in the black circle. If there’s a metalcore, grindcore, hardcore, or any other core song you think the world needs to hear, sound off in the comments below. \m/
