Wipe the blood from your teeth and get in the pit, itâs time for a recap of this weekâs best hardcore, metal, and punk rock. We searched the darkest corners of the Internet for all the best tracks for inciting a riot in your own home. Strap in, kiddies, it’s time to rage.
NORTH – “LIGHT THE WAY”
On March 18, Prosthetic Records will release North’s new album, Light the Way. Below, you can check out the title track from the record and, man, it’s some next-level stuff. If you love that post-metal, sludge soundâthink Neurosis or Cult of Lunaâyou will adore this record. North is a band that has been putting out solid stuff for a while, but Light the Way is a whole new league. Dark, haunting, and heavy, this is the kind of metal we can get behind. You can pre-order the album here.
THE BODY – “HALLOW/HOLLOW”
You have to love The Body. They make music so ugly and fierce, it’s like a fatality from Mortal Kombat. While we eagerly await their collaboration with Full of Hell (due out at the end of March), they’ve decided to bless us with a new track, “Hallow/Hollow,” which is all their own. It’s got that sonic squeal you’d expect from a The Body song, like somebody is drilling into your front lobe. Check it out below and pick up their new album No One Deserves Happiness on March 15. That’ll hold you over until Neurot releases that The Body and Full of Hell album.
PAWS – “NO GRACE”
PAWS play melodic, old-school punk rock. It’s got a bitter, teenage angst to it, in all the best ways. They just announced a new album called No Grace, which will be out this summer via FatCat Records. They also dropped a video for the title track, which happens to be a pretty damn good song. The album is produced by Mark Hoppus, so expect everyone to be comparing them to Blink-182 from now on. Maybe there is a little of that going on here, but PAWS definitely has its own sound. ILSA – “CULT OF THE THRONE”
ILSA has a split with Coffins, courtesy of our friends at Relapse Records. It”s on shelves now and it’s a record that’ll kick your skull in. Both bands bring some heavy weight doom to album, but ILSA reaches a level of ferocity that is truly admirable. Check out their track, “Cult of the Throne,” below, and pick up the album. Just look at that cover art! It’s gorgeous (and by that we mean hideous… and we love it).
G.L.O.S.S. –Â “Give Violence a Chance”
Not Normal Tapes has released Not Normal Presentsâ.â.â. Hardcore, which is pretty good on the whole. However, the first track is a new song from G.L.O.S.S. called “Give Violence a Chance” and it is downright amazing. If you are not familiar with G.L.O.S.S. you should probably rectify that right now. Awesome, furious band.
Graves at Sea –Â “Dead Eyes”
Graves at Sea rocks. They’re evil and feel like the sort of stuff you would listen to while building a ship of doom or burning a witch’s house. Their upcoming album, The Curse That Is, is killerâseriously, we love it. Check out “Dead Eyes” and prepare your very own altar to dark creatures.
FUCKO – “20 FOOT”
Lastly, this week saw the release of Fucko’s fantastic album Dealing with the Weird. It’s rocking, with a ’90s-infused sincerity. The whole record is great, so do yourself a favor and check it out. Plus, the band is called Fucko, so you know they’re not messing around.
Thatâs it for this week. Go forth; throw some horns up and keep spinning in the black circle. If thereâs a metalcore, grindcore, hardcore, or any-other-core song you think the world needs to hear, sound off in the comments below. \m/
