Wipe the blood from your teeth and get in the pit: it’s time for a recap of this week’s best hardcore, metal, and punk rock. We dug through the record crates to find the new tunes we think you need to spin and rage to. Looking for some new death metal to set the mood this season? Got you covered. Need some grindcore to get the spookiest time of year off on the right foot? Say no more. Strap in kiddies; it’s time to rock.

This Sithter album is supremely awesome. It’s called Chaotic Fiend, which somehow sums up the whole thing perfectly. It’s dirty, sludgy, and drenched in doom. These dudes are from Japan but they rock like they’re from the pits of hell. It’s even got a bit of a southern groove to it, like there’s a little Black Tusk or Mastodon influence lurking in there. You can hear “Masque of the Black Death” below. Just relish in the feedback and chaos. These guys are going to be on everyone’s radar real, real soon. They’re just too good to go unnoticed.

MONO is more than a band. With Requiem for Hell, they have transcended that label. They’re an experience, a score to vision. This is an album of contrasts, of light and dark, chaos and order, beautiful and ugly. At times, it soars with bright guitars and gentle drums, only to crash into an intense rhythm of fury and despair. This album takes you places, it moves you in the way that few records can. There’s a consistent darkness throughout it that ebbs and flows with intensity. Requiem for Hell is nothing short of a masterpiece. Listening to MONO is like listening to transmissions of another world; a place you can hardly imagine.

Super Unison’s Auto is finally here, and you can listen to it in its entirety below. We’ve been championing this one for a while and for good reason; it is awesome. Raw and fierce, Super Unison’s music bleeds with anger and energy. Literally every song on this record is a winner and it only takes one spin for this thing to inject itself into your mind where it’ll linger and rock out for days. Standout tracks include “You Don’t Tell Me,” “Prove Yourself,” and “Muted.” Listen to this radness now and check out Super Unison out on tour. If you’re lucky, they’re hitting your town and you can go rage with them.

It’s hard to not love a bad that puts out an album called Arctic Thunder. I mean, that was one of my favorite arcade games. It’s doubtful that the game inspired this album (sadly), but Darkthrone’s newest release is rad in its own way. It rips, for one thing. There’s some serious shredding going on throughout. You can get a taste in the track below. “Tundra Leech” is a classic metal track, a guitar-driven monster that rocks and rocks hard. If you like your heavy metal with some solid grooves and thunderous growls, you’ll love what Darkthrone is selling.

Cara Neir put out an insane amount an of music. Just scope their bandcamp page; it’s loaded to the brim with albums, EPs, and splits. What really defies logic, though, is how good it all is. You’d think with that kind of output, quality would slip in favor of quantity, but somehow, that is not the case. Their latest, Perpetual Despair is the Human Condition (awesome album name, btw) is another bleak and chaotic journey into a realm of black metal and atmosphere. Their stuff is perfectly low-fi giving it a raw and visceral feel. Sinister and blistering, Perpetual Despair is the Human Condition is a damn near perfect black metal album. Cara Neir are beyond talented; you can’t put out this much amazing music and not be incredibly and unbelievably gifted. This band is the real deal.

Khemmis appear poised to take over the world. Their new album, Hunted, is a heavy monster of an album, a crushing and brutal metal experience. It’s also a great rock record and there are hints of something bigger showing through. This is a band that will be filling arenas, no doubt. They have a commanding sound that’s big and bold. There’s something slick and flawless about Hunted, the sort of thing that makes you say, “damn, these guys should be opening for Metallica or something.” Hell, these guys could be the next Metallica. They have the chops to crossover into the mainstream in a big way. Just listen to the guitars shred through these tracks. Listen to the vocal melodies and catchy choruses. Khemmis are headed for the big time and Hunted is their ticket to the next level.

Oh, Dethbeds, how we love ye. We love your buzzsaw frenzy of a sound. We love your DIY attitude and old school aesthetic. We love your new album, Dungeon Scum. We love its relentless energy and unnerving pacing. Dethbeds are punk and metal all at once; they’re unapologetically mean and brutal. We love this band and we love how listening to them is like having your toes smashed with a hammer (in a good way). If you love the early days of Converge and Dillinger Escape Plan, you’ll love Dethbeds, too. This is the soundtrack to burning cop car. This is one of the best albums of the year. We love you, Dethbeds. Deeply and truly, with all our hearts.
