Wipe the blood from your teeth (that we imagine you got from over-brushing) and get in the pit, itâs time for a recap of this weekâs best hardcore, metal, and punk rock. We dug through the record crates to find the new tunes we think you need to spin and rage to. Strap in, kiddies, itâs time to rock.
Ascend/Descend is playing some of the best hardcore punk we’ve heard in a long time. Fast, brutal stuff that fans of bands like F-Minus are sure to love; Ascend/Descend are straightforward and mean as all hell. Check out their new EPÂ Murdock Street below. (via Noisey)
Any new Agoraphobic Nosebleed music is always a cause for celebration, but holy cow their new EP is something special. New vocalist Kat – just Kat – kills it, bringing a fierce new dynamic to the band’s ever-growing sound. The riffage is heavy with this one, truly rocking stuff in that trash metal sorta way. We’ve had this one on repeat since it premiered, so check it out below and order yourself a copy over at Relapse Record’s site.
World be Free is a new supergroup of sorts. Featuring members of Gorilla Biscuits, Terror, Judge, and Strife, the lineup is an ’80s and ’90s hardcore fan’s dream. Their debut album, The Anti-Circle, is out on 2/5 from Revelation Records and it’s really good stuff. The songs are short, fast, and angry. It’s got the exact energy you would expect given the band member’s pedigree. You miss the days of making mix tapes and stage diving in crowded, dingy clubs? Then this band is for you. Check out the song “Breakout or Busted” right now.
L.A. Witch is a dreamy, post-punk band with a stripped-down, garage sound. They have a new seven-inch dropping on 2/12 and they recently shared one of the tracks that’ll grace that vinyl. “Drive Your Car” is hypnotic stuff, filled with reverb and droning vocals. It’s beautiful, really, and the sort of stuff you can easily fall in love with. Like, I want to marry this song, move to the Valley, and start a family with it. The guitar solo alone is enough to sending you into a bizarre fever dream.
Seven Sisters of Sleep have shared another track from their upcoming album, Ezekielâs Hags. “Denounce” is a six-minute-long grinder, slowly punishing its way through growls, rifts, and pounding drums. This stuff is so thick you could wrap it up and call it Dark Doom Chocolate. This album is definitely one to keep an eye on, it’s shaping up to be one of 2016’s best.
If you need some classic sounding metal in your life – hey, it’s your life, you live it however you want, buddy – then check out the new lyric video from Holy Grail. It’s for the song “Crystal King” and it’s a galloping track with vocals that live and die on the Sunset Strip. If that’s your thing, check it out below and order the new album Times of Pride and Peril from our pals at Prothetic Records.
Finally, we are big enough to admit when we make a mistake. Look, sometimes good stuff falls through the cracks, it happens. Somehow, embarrassingly, we missed the supremely awesome Wild Throne album Harvest Of Darkness last year. It’s a glorious record, mixture of Dillinger Escape Plan, the Mars Volta, Mutoid Man, and gold ol’ fashion rock n’ roll. It’s fan-freaking-tastic and you should buy it right now. Like, right now.
That’s it for us this week. Keep spinning those records and let us know in the comments what you are banging your head to these days. Throw some horns up and rock on, jerks.
