I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you like practical effects, you need to be watching Scott Ian’s Bloodworks. Heck, you need to be watching even if you haven’t discovered the glorious, masterful, sometimes disturbing art of practical effects. From building superhuman creatures to molding body parts out of regular ol’ humans’ regular ol’ abnormalities, practical effects range from prosthetics to makeup to everything in between. Each week, Scott Ian (he of legendary Anthrax fame) goes to various studios to see how these artists make their practical magic.
Today’s episode takes Scott Ian to Atlantic West Effects in Sun Valley, CA, a make-up effects studio that specializes in sculpture, prosthetics, and animatronics. Ian chats with prolific creature designer Gabe Bartalos about his work on movies like Brain Damage, Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, Gremlins 2, and the Leprechaun series, creating an impactful image, and his undying love of gore effects.
Catch up on Scott Ian’s Bloodworks with last week’s season premiere, and make sure you tune in each Tuesday for more practical effects, in-depth interviews, and of course, plenty of blood spatter.
Fantastic!!!
