Sci-Fi Hits the L.A. Stage with Sci-Fest

Genre fiction dominates most every visual medium these days – movies, TV, comics – so it’s high time for science fiction and fantasy to take over the world of live theater as well. To help get things started, actor/writer David Dean Bottrell (of True Blood and Justified fame) is launching the 1st Annual Sci-Fest this May, a month-long festival of one-act science-fiction plays. Beginning May 6 and running through June 1 at the Acme Theater in Hollywood, Sci-Fest will showcase work from an eclectic group of directors, including Warehouse 13 showrunner Jack Kenny and the voice of Homer Simpson himself, actor-screenwriter Dan Castellaneta.

A great many faces familiar to genre TV fans will appear on stage too, from shows like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Lost, and Babylon Five. Best of all, the festival will feature plays based on stories by such science-fiction legends as Ursula K. Le Guin (whose “The Wife’s Story” will make its world premiere) and Ray Bradbury (whose masterpiece “Kaleidoscope” will enjoy a revival).
