Say ‘Hello’ (and Wow) to This Marching Band’s Cover of Adele’s Hit

Well this marching band version of Adele’s “Hello” certainly beats yet another rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In,” eh?

Coming to us from the Southern University Marching Band, the song was performed during the Bayou Classic Battle of the Bands event. In spite of this stunning performance, Southern University did not win; the title went to Grambling State University’s Tiger marching band. But that doesn’t mean the band didn’t win the evening as a whole.

The song starts off slowly, but stick with it: if you stop the video too early you might not understand what made it so good. Stay until the chorus kicks in and you will certainly understand what all the fuss is about. Then, when the second chorus is played, you’ll be the one making a fuss. The slow build is just a prelude to the powerful moment when all of the horns kick in, a genuine goosebump moment—sorta like Adele’s voice.

Adele’s new album 25 is breaking records, and you can’t listen to the radio for more than twenty minutes without hearing “Hello,” and none of that is a surprise. Adele is great, the album is great, and “Hello” is great. It hasn’t even been two months since the video premiered online, and yet it is closing in on 600 million views. This marching band version is just one of the many tributes to Adele’s hit song, but it will definitely not be the last.

What is another Adele song you’d love to see a marching band tackle? How about another popular song? We want to hear what you’d like to hear, below in our comments section.
